About
Janet Hutchinson is Professor Emerita in the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies. She also held a faculty appointment with the L Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, Virginia Commonwealth University. Professor Hutchinson earned her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh. Her scholarship focused on the theoretical analyses of gender issues in public policy and administration. She published one book based on her professional experiences with child and family welfare organizations as well as academic articles on gendering and multi-gendering in public policy and administration.
As Department Chair from 2009 until her retirement in 2013, Professor Hutchinson guided the department’s renaming from the original Women’s Studies Program to its current more inclusive name and mission.
