Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies

Earn your post-baccalaureate certificate alone or while pursuing another graduate degree.

The certificate requires a total of 15 graduate credit hours, comprised of three core courses and two elective courses. Courses are offered once a year. A student may take electives outside the department with prior approval of the GSWS chair or associate chair. In general, it will take one year to earn the certificate.

How to Apply

All graduate applications must be submitted online through the VCU Graduate Admissions website.

The following materials must be submitted:

  1. Online application and application fee
  2. Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended by the applicant
  3. Three references from former instructors (one may be from an employer/supervisor)
  4. Statement of intent (personal statement)
  5. CV/résumé

Note: Fall semester entrance is required for students without prior coursework in gender, sexuality or women’s studies (graduate or undergraduate).
