Canfield and Cynn to receive faculty awards
April 5, 2019
Congratulations to two of our GSWS colleagues who received faculty awards this week!
Elizabeth Canfield, Ph.D., received the College of Humanities and Sciences 2019 Distinguished Teaching in Humanities and Social Sciences Award. The award will be officially conferred at the College faculty and staff awards breakfast on April 18.
The purpose of this award is to honor an outstanding contribution to the craft of teaching by a faculty member in the College. The award is for teaching-related activity and is given either for specific initiatives that demonstrate significant innovativeness or creativity in teaching or for more general excellence in professing one’s discipline, as evidenced by an unusual ability to engage students and stimulate learning, personal investment and commitment, and an ongoing effort to improve teaching.
Christine Cynn, Ph.D., received the VCU Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award. This honor recognizes a faculty member who has made a lasting impression through their guidance and mentorship of undergraduates conducting research and scholarship at VCU. Dr. Cynn’s contributions will be recognized at the annual Poster Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity, on Wednesday April 24 in the Commonwealth Ballroom of the VCU Student Commons. (Remarks will begin at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to all.)
Thank you to Drs. Canfield and Cynn for their outstanding contributions to enriching the lives of our students, and congratulations on these well-deserved awards!
